SCRYE YEOs and Management Committee

The EEMA 2006 conference was just great. It was indeed an honor to represent SCRYE at this meeting. The only trouble I had in travel were the legs of my return trip in the US. I can tell you anything you ever want to know about Terminal B in Atlanta after spending almost all day there Tuesday.

Go Here for a PDF document that is my report on the trip. Sections include 1) EEMA, 2) Notes for SCRYE, and 3) Country comments. This report reflects my impressions of the meeting and things that were shared there. Also included a  list those persons to whom I gave a SCRYE flyer. Those persons may follow up with you as a result.

Some key take-aways from the trip for me are:

  1. Almost no one is familiar with SCRYE because they deal with our member districts directly. The flyer seemed to help a lot with that.

  2. Several districts are extremely interested in developing a family to family STEP with USA/Canada districts. They are noted on the attached Excel file.

  3. Our visa instructions for inbounds are well received.

  4. Jill Wetcher of the RI staff and Orscelik Baklan from the RI Board of Directors gave informative comments regarding YE and certification.

  5. The primary problems that the EEMA districts have with certification are obtaining liability insurance and doing criminal background checks, the latter of which is not allowed in any European country represented at the meeting. They are developing alternatives to meet the RI requirements.

  6. A couple of innovative interview techniques for outbound candidates were discussed during side conversations. They are described on page 5 of the Word document.

  7. The Ohio-Erie multi-district in the USA is professionally developing a DVD for training club YEOs, Rotary counselor, host family, and inbound/outbound students. The final product will be offered to districts at incremental cost estimated at $2 per DVD.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the attached report. I am happy to share all that I learned with you. Thanks again for this wonderful opportunity to represent SCRYE.

Yours in Rotary,
