Applying for an OUTBOUND EXCHANGE

Ready to Apply?
Here's what you need to do

The Rotary International application forms for short-term and long-term exchanges are different. Some districts use a preliminary application form for long-term exchanges. Also, some districts require that the outbound Exchangee also host. To find out which application forms your dictrict uses, contact your Rotary District and ask. Here are links to the forms in Adobe PDF format:

If you have difficulty downloading any of these forms, first make certain that you have the latest Adobe Reader plug-in installed with your browser. Click HERE for instructions to download it. If your unable to download the forms, contact your Rotary Club or Rotary Dictrict for hard copies of the forms.

Please carefully read and follow the instructions on the outbound exchange applications. You should complete the application like it is for a job you want a lot. Everything should be typed and photos must be originals, not photocopies, suitable to make a good first impression. Your Rotary District contact may require more copies of the forms with original photos or additional information, which must be provided. Remember, this document will be your first impression with everyone at each step in the approval process. Interviews with you and others close to you are a normal part of the review process in most cases, but they see the application form first.

Your Rotary District contact will inform you of the specific application process for your district. Normally, the form will first go to your local Rotary Club for review and approval/rejection. To find out more about your local Rotary Club meets, check out this link to Where Clubs Meet. If the local Rotary Club approves your application, it will go to your Rotary District for review and approval/rejection. At this point you may receive a preliminary approval by the district, subject to successful completion of the orientation process. Your application will then be sent to Rotary Districts in your countries of interest for review and acceptance/rejection, without ever talking to you in most cases. Now you see why the quality of your application form is so important!

Good luck with your application. Remember, you often make your own luck or visit our contacts page to find a Rotary Youth Exchange contact near you  for more information.
